-Focus student products around significant problems and issues
This is a fantastic way to help students really understand the material, is if they can connect with the material. Otherwise it is just another fact or idea that means nothing to them. I wish that we could help each student make those connections all the time. Wouldn't it be something to be able to remember all the things you discussed in school?

I think this goes back to helping students understand and make connections to the real world. This also reminds me of a Comedian who was trying to help adults understand what a child is going through when they accidently let go of their balloon. He said "Imagine if your wallet just all of the sudden started floating away. You would be freaking out the same way, and you wouldn't care if you could get one just like it, you want "that one"' In the same regards students need to understand what it's like to be an adult, in a small regard. They need to make connections to their world and their perceptions.
